Dow AgroSciences LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, held a community open house on Aug. 21, to showcase the expansion of the company's Iowa Field Research Station in Davenport, Iowa.

At the open house, a donation of $10,000 was given to the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate as a way of giving back to the local community where our employees have lived and worked for more than 17 years.

To accommodate the rapidly expanding seed research programs, Dow AgroSciences purchased five acres of land that connects to the current site that is located in the eastern part of the state, near the Illinois border.

The expansion includes an office building/seed lab, seed dryer area, and two machine storage units. The Davenport site plants 15 acres of corn silage plots and approximately 200 acres of corn grain plots each year as part of the research efforts.

"The new facility will allow us to sustain our current growth in seed research work and also to keep pace with current and future seed technologies," said Nate VanOpdorp, Davenport Field Research Station Site Leader, Dow AgroSciences.

"We have more than doubled our research efforts in the Davenport, Iowa area over the past six years. Our plans are to continue this growth so that we can meet our goals releasing market-leading seed products, which will help farmers in the U.S. supply the grain we need to feed the world's growing population."

"This facility provides an important piece of our development process for corn and corn silage," said Daniel R. Kittle, vice president of Research and Development at Dow AgroSciences. "The expansion will increase our capacity to test and develop the state-of-the-art corn solutions needed by growers throughout North America."

The Davenport site has approximately 10 full-time employees, with more than 50 temporary and seasonal employees during the planting and growing seasons of Iowa and Illinois. This number is expected to grow in the future.
