Calif. delta farmers agree to cut water use

On May 22, an announcement was made that farmers in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta of California will give up a quarter of their water this season. This will require leaving land unplanted or finding other ways to reduce water use such as switching to lower-use water crops or adding new technology irrigation.

Silver leaf symptom in corn

Forecasts of unusually low temperatures in late May or early June can set off warning bells for corn growers and lead to fearmongering about frost damage to young corn. Reports of fields with these issues are widespread across Indiana, Iowa, and surrounding areas, and many farmers and crop advisors are questioning if damage is more severe when pre-emergence herbicides are applied to fields that have been planted with seed treated with the new fluopyram fungicide seed treatment ILeVO.
