Google Ventures invests in agricultural technology startup

Google Inc., dipping its toes into an emerging agricultural sector, is investing in a computerized farming network that crunches data on seeds and soil to help farmers grow more crops and save money. Farmers Business Network Inc. on Tuesday closed a $15 million investing round led by Google's venture-capital division, which the startup intends to use to expand its field-analysis service into more states and crops.

Soy complex turned lower Friday

US dollar strength once again weighed on the commodity sector Friday. A relatively high reading for Core-CPI on a Friday morning report sent the U.S. dollar higher, which in turn undercut the commodity markets. Actually, it wasn’t terribly surprising to see the corn setback, since the market had risen rather significantly lately despite generally bearish fundamentals, especially with the long weekend looming. July corn futures sank 5.0 cents to $3.60/bushel at Friday’s close, while December dipped 4.5 to $3.7775.

Plan ahead for fertigation

Fertigation allows application of nitrogen closest to the plants uptake in need of nitrogen without extra field traffic. DuPont releases updated Global Food Security Index

DuPont joined public and private sector leaders at Expo Milan 2015 to share examples of rural and urban innovations that address the global food security challenge. During the event, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) unveiled the results of the DuPont-sponsored 2015 Global Food Security Index, which showed continued improvement in global food security.
