Developing nations now dominate GM crop production

In the latest annual report of the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA), which supports the commercialization of biotech products, 20 of the 28 countries that grow biotech crops are developing countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia including two South-East Asian nations.


Plan now for spring soil sampling

Farmers looking for ways to control crop production costs and add to their bottom lines use soil sampling as the basis for their crop fertility programs. If the late harvest and early freeze meant that soil sampling didn’t get done last fall, there is still time this spring to take samples for a 2015 crop fertility program.

New Holland has introduced the Guardian Injection Toolbar to the Guardian self-propelled sprayer line. Designed to be mounted on Guardian front-boom sprayers, the Injection Toolbar fuels corn growth by applying liquid N just before maximum uptake to ensure ready availability during the critical growth period.

Bob Hartzler and Mike Owen, professors of agronomy and ISU Extension and Outreach weed scientists, updated the 2015 Herbicide Guide for Iowa Corn and Soybean Production to reflect the 2014 growing season, product effectiveness and changes in industry offerings.


NDSU’s durum variety Carpio now available

This year, growers will be able to plant a high-quality durum variety developed by North Dakota State University. Carpio durum is available and the first distribution of registered seed is under way.
