The regulatory review and approval process for the merger of Potash Corporation and Agrium continues and the parties expect closure of the transaction in the third quarter of 2017. The newly formed company will be called Nutrien.
Nutrien will be the world’s largest potash mining company, the world’s second larger nitrogen fertilizer producer and the third largest natural resource company in Canada.
The deal is reportedly worth about $36 billion, including debt.
Nutrien will have operations in 18 countries and more than 20,000 employees. Its headquarters will continue to be in PotashCorp’s home city—Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. And Nutrien will have corporate offices in Agrium’s current location—Calgary.
